Forklift Parts High River - High River is a town in southwestern Alberta, Canada with a population of 10,716. It is 37 kilometres or 23 mi south of the city of Calgary, at the crossroads of Alberta Highways 2 and 23. Though reasonably far from Calgary, the town of High River is nonetheless considered to be part of the Calgary Area.
The village gets its name from the Highwood River, which flows through the town, and normally floods in the spring.
The town is best famous for being the birthplace of Joe Clark, former Canadian Prime Minister. Other well-known former citizens include W.O. Mitchell, author of such books as Roses Are Difficult Here and Who Has Seen the Wind, and WHA and NHL hockey player John "Pie" McKenzie.
The town of High River was the location for Smallville in Superman III and was the site used for Montana in Caitlin's Way, that is a series on Nickelodeon. Recently, a CBS television series, Heartland has found High River its main filming location. Also, the movie Carolina Moon based on the book by Nora Roberts was filmed within High River.
Lots of murals have been painted around the town of High River throughout much of the past 3 decades in order to help promote High River's heritage and tourism endeavours. High River hosted the World Professional Chuckwagon Association Dodge Pro Tour Championships in the year 2006 and 2010.
There was a tree that stood near the existing town location of High River which was called the Medicine Tree. It was created through a natural grafting which occurred between two cottonwood trees, when the branch of one grew into the trunk of the other.
The indigenous peoples, particularly the Stony and Blackfoot, considered this to be a sign from the Spirits which the spot was favoured. It was also near the Medicine Tree that traders determined to build a fort, and soon after settlers came to claim the land that is presently the town of High River.
The Town of High River Culture Centre is a venue for various programs, activities, and special events that are designed to work towards the coordination and provision of services that meet the needs of the local community. Programs are for different ages and are intended to expose the local community to a wide variety of opportunities.
There is a big studio at the Culture Centre that could be utilized for various activities like for instance dance, music and the arts, and general interest in addition to health and wellness courses.
